A Visit to Provence

Penny and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary with a trip to Paris and Provence. This was our first time in Provence and it was a revelation. The light, the history, the food, the people and beauty of this region of France exceeded what we had hoped for.
In Provence we stayed at the Le Mas Des Carassins Hotel in Saint Remy de Provence. This painting is of the view from our room. Saint Remy is the city where Van Gogh lived for nearly a year tried to regain his health after his infamous breakdown in Arles. The ear incident. It was in Saint Remy he created some of his most beautiful paintings including his masterpiece, Irises. Imagine silver green olives groves, violet irises bordering the roads, and a beautiful country setting flanked by magnificently lush green mountains with rocky peaks of rich ochre. We spent wonderful hours walking the roads and paths of St. Remy. We also discovered Glanum, the site of an ancient Roman village that was excavated from the beneath olive orchards painted by Van Gogh.
Provence is simply breathtaking.
