Books for an Artist’s Studio

Chardin, Vermeer, and Friends|9×12 inches|oil on linen panel

I love books. Not just to use them as models, but to actually read them. I have compiled this list from my bookshelves and the recommendations from several artists friends. They are all linked to Amazon for you to learn more about each.

I have arranged them in broad categories of Instruction, and Inspiration. The truth is they are all inspiring.

  1. Michael Pearce says:

Oh my! Well, you have to include Aristides – Classical Painting Atelier and her Classical Drawing Atelier, and Velazquez – Techniques of Genius, and how about Da Vinci – On Painting, and for the old masters Thompson – Materials and Techniques of Medieval Painting.
    Good idea
