Michael Lynn Adams, Contemporary Realist Artist

Michael Lynn Adams, contemporary realist artist

Experiencing beautiful art has the power to elevate life with a sense of joy and hope. My paintings are inspired when I encounter an object, place, or person that strikes me as so beautiful that it compels me to take it on as a painting challenge. My painting process is a search for clues to express to others how I felt when I first experienced the subject. My greatest joy as a painter is the exploration and discoveries I make along the way. The way light behaves and the fascinating patterns and textures.

For generations, creative arts has been central to my family as artists, architects, theater professor, and musicians. My physicist and environmental scientist uncle was an unlikely influence on my artistic development. Living next door to him and my aunt and five cousins created one large family of four parents and eight children. We were given the space, tools, and encouragement to follow our curiosity, and create with abandon. The influence of marrying science with art instilled in me the love of exploration and digging deep to understand how we experience the world. It also formed my love of the language of realism to express my feelings and experiences.

Shortly after graduating with an Art degree, I returned to my alma mater to serve as director of the university’s marketing office where I regularly had the opportunity to do illustration work. I taught design, drawing, and painting.

In 2012 I co-founded and directed The Representational Art Conference, an international academic conference focused on the philosophical underpinnings of representational art in the 21st Century.

In 2015 I retired from academia to turn to full-time art.

My work has been featured in Fine Art Connoisseur, American Art Collector, and International Artist, and hangs in private and public collections in the US and abroad.
