Provence: A Preview

Rose in Provence

Rose in Provence - Oil on Linen 8 x 10

My beautiful wife and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary with a trip to Paris an Provence. This was our first time in Provence and it was a revelation. The light, the history, the food, the people and beauty of this region of France exceeded what we had hoped for. In future posts I will give you details. But for now here is a little preview of a series of paintings based on the visual riches of Provence.

This rose was from the garden in the Le Mas Des Carassins Hotel in Saint Remy de Provence. Yes, the small city where Van Gogh spent nearly a year in an asylum while creating some of his most wonderful paintings. Imagine silver green olives groves, violet irises bordering the roads, and a beautiful country setting flanked by magnificently lush green mountains with rocky peaks of rich ochre.

Ah Provence !!!
